Privacy and data protection policy
The Isocrates Foundation respects your privacy
The protection of your privacy when processing personal data and the security of all personal data is one of our major concerns. This policy exists to explain how and why Isocrates Foundation processes personal information (such as the personal information we collect when you visit our website, apply for a grant, or otherwise interact with us) and your rights in relation to the processing of your data.
What personal data do we process?
We collect personal data that is generally provided by you. In particular, we collect your contact details, such as your name, telephone number, address or e‑mail address, information about your role within the company or the organization for which you (or the respective contact persons) work as well as other data, especially in connection with a request for support and the use of our website.
By providing us with personal data, you consent to us collecting and processing it for the indicated purpose and in order to contact you. Information that cannot be associated with your identity (e.g. statistical data on the number of users of our online offering) does not constitute personal data.
How do we process personal data?
We generally collect personal data in the following cases: when you submit a request for support to our foundation; when you visit our website; when you communicate directly with us; when you sign up for our newsletters or events; when you complete a survey; or when you provide us with your personal data for other reasons. We may occasionally use your data in order to contact you to suggest you activities, projects or events that might interest you.
Do we pass on your personal data?
We do not share your personal data with third parties, except in specific circumstances which are legally justified, or when you have explicitly consented to such sharing. This particularly applies to instances where we conduct external project evaluations in collaboration with you.
The Foundation may engage external service providers to support its operational needs. External service providers, who may process data on our behalf, are bound by a strict obligation of confidentiality and security.
How long do we keep your personal data?
In principle, we keep your data for as long as is necessary for our business relationship with you or as long as we have a legitimate interest in doing so. In all other cases, we delete your personal data, with the exception of that which we must retain in accordance with our legal obligations (e.g. if we are bound by a legal retention period, we retain documents such as contracts and invoices for a period of minimum 10 years).
What data is processed when using our website?
When you visit our website, our servers temporarily record any access in a log file. The following technical data is then collected and stored by us for up to seven months, before being automatically deleted:
- the IP address of the requesting computer
- date and time of access
- the website from which access was gained, including any search terms used
- name and URL of files accessed
- search requests executed
- your computer’s operating system (supplied by the User Agent)
- the browser you are using (communicated by the User Agent)
- type of device, if accessing from a cell phone
- the transmission protocol used
The collection and processing of this data ensures system security and stability, enables error and performance analysis, and is also used for internal statistical purposes and to optimize our Internet offering. The IP address is also used to set the default language for the website. Lastly, when you visit our website, we install cookies as well as applications and tools based on the use of cookies. You will find further information on this subject in the next chapter.
What are cookies and when are they used?
Cookies are small text files stored on your computer when you visit our website. If you call up the page again, your browser sends us the contents of the cookies, which enable us to recognize your terminal. The use of cookies enables us to optimize our website for you and make it easier for you to use.
When you visit our website, a pop-up will inform you that our site contains cookies and that, by using the site, you accept them. If you decide not to accept cookies, you can disable and delete them in your browser at any time. Please consult your browser’s help function. However, deactivating cookies may prevent you from taking advantage of certain functions on our website. If you use a different browser or terminal, you will need to deactivate or delete cookies again.
The website below also offers the possibility of managing the use of cookies by third-party service providers and deactivating them: www.youronlinechoices.com/ch-fr/controler-ses-cookies. We do not operate this website and are therefore not responsible for its content or accessibility, over which we have no control.
How are tracking tools used?
We need statistical information on the use of our online offering (in particular our website and newsletters) in order to make it more user-friendly, carry outreach analyses and conduct market research. To this end, we use web analysis tools, in particular Google Analytics. In addition to the data listed above (see “What data is processed when using our website?”), we collect the following information:
- the navigation path leading the visitor to the website
- the duration of the visit to the website or a page
- the page on which the website is exited
- country, region, or city of origin of access
- the terminal (type, version, color depth, resolution, width, and height of the browser window)
- whether it is a repeat or new visitor
This information is used to analyze the use of the website. If you wish to disable Google Analytics, you will find an add-on for your browser at https://tools.google.com/dlpage/gaoptout?hl=en. As explained in the previous chapter, you can prevent the creation of usage profiles by deactivating cookies globally.
Social media
Our website may contain links or plug-ins to various social networks. You’ll recognize them by the logo of the provider concerned. By clicking on the links, you open the corresponding social media sites, for which this privacy statement does not apply. Please consult the details of the specific provisions in the privacy statement of the provider concerned, on its website.
No personal information is transmitted to the relevant provider prior to accessing the corresponding link or plug-in. The activation of the link to the corresponding site already constitutes the basis for data processing by the provider concerned. We have no influence on data processing operations and are completely unaware of what data is collected, for what purpose and for how long. Nor do we have any information about the deletion of data by the plug-in provider.
Newsletter
As part of our online offering, you may be able to subscribe to a newsletter. In this case, we will use a so-called double opt-in procedure, whereby we will only send you the newsletter by e‑mail if you have expressly confirmed your subscription by clicking on a link in the service activation notification. If you subsequently no longer wish to receive newsletters, you may cancel your subscription at any time with effect for the future by revoking your consent. Subscriptions to electronic newsletters may be revoked by clicking on the link at the bottom of the newsletter. You may also do this by contacting us using the details given in the Contact section.
What rights do you have in relation to your personal data?
You have the following rights with regard to your personal data:
- You can request information about the personal data we hold about you.
- You can request that your personal data be corrected, supplemented, blocked or deleted.
- If you have consented to the processing of your data, you may revoke your consent at any time with effect for the future.
To exercise your rights, simply send us a letter by post or an e‑mail. See the Contact section.
Data security
As the processing of data via the internet is not completely secure, we cannot guarantee the security of your information transmitted to our website. Any transmission is at your own risk. Once we have received your information, we will use appropriate procedures and security features to try to protect the personal data we hold about you from manipulation, partial or total loss or unauthorized access by third parties.
Changes to this privacy and data protection policy
We reserve the right to amend and supplement this declaration at any time at our discretion and in accordance with data protection legislation. Please consult this declaration regularly.
